BLM confirms 10,600 acres of quartz dunes up to 400 ft; much of the area is a wilderness study area off-limits to motors. Big dunes west of Egin Lakes and surrounding vegetated dunes close seasonally (Jan 1-Apr 1 / May 1); smaller dunes east of Red Road are open year-round. Coordinates are the Egin Lakes access area (approximate).
